My colleagues Thibaut Barreyre (WHOI), Jill McDermott (U. Toronto), Maria Pachiadaki (Bigelow Lab) and I are proposing to organize a session on deep-sea hydrothermal processes (Session #8474). The overarching theme will be to "follow the fluids" through the oceanic crust from the bottom up. We welcome studies of 1/ deep crustal processes (e.g., inferring fluid pathways, permeability distribution, and fluid-rock interactions), 2/ vent dynamics (e.g., fluid chemistry, temperature, fluxes), and 3/ the associated seafloor ecosystems (microorganisms, metabolic processes, larvae).
Our host section is Ocean Sciences, but we are co-sponsored by Biogeosciences, Tectonophysics, and Volcanology / Geochemistry / Petrology for maximum interdisciplinary-ness. If you work on these topics and would like to make your work visible to a broader hydrothermal community, we strongly encourage you to submit an abstract to our session. Feel free to get in touch with me or my co-conveners for additional details, and (hopefully) see you in December !
